About the program
The Yaebo Players is open to students who have completed 9th grade through completed 12th grade this past school year and age 15 (or turning 15 by Sept. 1st, 2022). They rehearse Monday-Friday. The emphasis of the group is on refining skills of performance. We would like each student to not only grow as an individual, but also develop their understanding of ensemble work.
The Yaebo Players will proudly present the hilarious and dance filled musical Crazy For You. This upbeat production which takes place in New York City and of all places Deadrock, Nevada is filled with the fabulous music of George Gershwin. It is as jazzy as Chicago three years ago but filled with tap dancing cowboys and vaudeville dancers, throw in a little love at first sight, an overbearing mother, domineering fiance, and you have a recipe for two hours of entertainment.
Auditions will be held at Cambridge Middle School on Wednesday, June 1st starting at 6:30. All participants are asked to be there the entire 3 hour timeframe. Auditions will consist of a prepared solo (usually about one verse), a dance audition and a cold reading (or multiple readings) from the show. We generally prefer to hear songs from the show, but any song will be fine. After the individual solo, you may be asked to prepare a different song from the musical, so we can hear different things. A pianist will be provided but know that he/she may not be able to sight read a piece for you that isn’t from the show.
As usual, copies of the songs can be obtained by contacting Mr. Knudsvig. If you are singing a song from a different source, please provide sheet music for the pianist.
Rehearsals for this group will be from 9:00am -12:00pm Monday through Thursday as well as 9:00am -3:00pm on Fridays (with a few exceptions). Rehearsals for June and part of July will be at Cambridge Middle School. A typical rehearsal would include one to two hours of music rehearsal and the rest spent on choreography and staging.
Students will need to have a pair of tap shoes as well this summer. Play Inc. does own a limited number of shoes that could be used, but most students will need to secure a pair of their own. Information about what style and color of tap shoe is needed will be posted here soon.
To prepare for auditions and for the production, Play Inc will be hosting a series of tap classes in late April and May. These will most likely be on Saturdays or Sundays. Dates and times are still being worked out. These classes are not mandatory, but will definitely benefit each performer in preparation for the show. These classes are also included in the price of registration.
The tradition of “I Sing the Body Electric” will continue this year and all performers are expected to be at the performances for the middle school production to be a part of this unifying song. For those unfamiliar, this is an annual song that we perform with all the high school and middle school performers to unify the program.
Registration will be open until May 6th or until the program is full.
