About The Program

The Junior Theatre Troupe is open to students who have completed grades 5 through 8 who will be at least age 11-14 (or turning 11 by Sept. 1, 2026).  They rehearse Monday-Thursday at Cambridge Middle School from 1:00-4:00. The goal of the program is to expose students to theatre and the various aspects that go into creating a full musical production. Students will learn the basics of singing, acting, and dancing as well as many other things.

This year the Junior Theatre Troupe will be presenting, Peter Pan, Jr.   Peter and his mischievous fairy sidekick, Tinkerbell, visit the nursery of the Darling children late one night and, with a sprinkle of pixie dust, begin a magical journey across the stars that none of them will ever forget. In the adventure of a lifetime, the travelers come face to face with a ticking crocodile, the fierce Brave Girls, a band of bungling pirates and, of course, the villainous Captain Hook.

Auditions

All middle school students who register for the Junior Theatre Troupe will be in the show, however everybody must go through the audition process. Auditions are used to cast leads and smaller parts in the production. Those not receiving speaking parts, will be part of the chorus. Nobody who registers will be denied the opportunity to perform. We will spend the first three days of rehearsal going over the audition pieces and preparing students for those auditions. On the fourth day we will hold auditions and the next day post the cast list of roles and chorus.

Rehearsals and Expectations

Rehearsals will take place from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday. A calendar of specific rehearsal requirements will be provided at the first day of rehearsal and a full schedule of events and rehearsals will be posted on the website. Rehearsals for the first few weeks will be held at Cambridge Middle School and move to Cambridge-Isanti High School the Monday before performances.

Body Electric

The tradition of “I Sing the Body Electric” will continue this year and all performers are expected to be at the performances for the middle school production to be a part of this unifying song.  For those unfamiliar, this is an annual song that we perform with all the high school and middle school performers to unify the program.

Registration will be open until May 1st or until the program is full (last year registration filled up within two days of opening.  The previous two years, programs have filled up within three days of opening, and students were then placed on a waiting list.  Not everybody from the waiting list got accepted into the program due to space.

*Registration for all performers is $250–includes Play Inc sweatshirt and Peter Pan, Jr.  t-shirt.
